Since 2004 Mazda New Zealand has been a proud partner of Project Crimson, forging a shared commitment toward protecting and enhancing New Zealand’s natural environment for future generations.
As part of this support venture, the Mazda Foundation and the Project Crimson Trust launched TREEmendous in 2007. This sees four schools selected each year to receive $10,000 to become a TREEmendous School by creating an outdoor learning area with substantial native plantings. We have also created lizard gardens, planted fruit orchards, built pathways and outdoor stages. Visit treemendous.org.nz/past-treemendous-events and have a look at some of the completed TREEmendous Schools for some more ideas.
The initiative is about encouraging environmental education in schools and teaching children and the wider community about the importance of the environment through the planting of native plants and the creation of outdoor educational classrooms.
Project Crimson is a conservation charity that works with organisations, schools, iwi, communities and individuals throughout New Zealand through large-scale restoration and environmental education programmes, and advocates for their hero species pōhutukawa and rātā.
